This is a yuenboku ink: an ink stick crafted from a blend of rapeseed or camellia soot and glue with a lustrous finish. Once ground, it typically produces ink with a rich, brownish-black hue and smooth consistency, which is particularly favoured for capturing warmth and nostalgia. Horai is yuenboku but produces a blue hue.
